Adoptee Writer’s Community
After teaching more than a dozen classes of the Introduction to the Adoptee Writer’s Experience (AWE), I discovered the magic that happened when we came together in this writing community resulted not only from each one of us being adopted and being willing to share our stories honestly; it was also because we were women.
And that’s why the Adoptee Writer’s Experience Community is limited to women.
Sure, male adoptees also need to write and share their stories. Big D, the love of my life, is adopted, and his story needs to be shared, just like all of ours. But since writing is therapeutic and healing (no, I’m not a therapist), having an AWE Community devoted solely to women, allows our community members the freedom to share without censoring themselves. And let’s face it, most of us have been censoring ourselves for far too long–– as in, most of our lives.
You’ll learn more about this community when you join the Introduction to the Adoptee Writer’s Experience class. If you don’t want to wait for the next class to learn more, please get in touch with me directly with “adoptee community” in your email subject line. You can reach me at Ann @ AnnPeck dot com.
Men: there’s a place for you, too!
As I mentioned, Big D is also adopted, with a story to share. In many ways, our adoptee stories are genderless. Your story needs to be told, and I would be honored to help facilitate your process. Unless otherwise identified, the Introduction to the Adoptee Writer’s Experience sessions is available to everyone. I encourage you to begin there. And if we discover enough interest in an AWE Community for Men, I’m happy to offer one.
